Patina Maldives is located in North Malé Atoll, a 55-minute boat ride from Velana international airport. Patina sits as part of an island grouping developed to offer guests a slightly different experience from the usual one-island-one-hotel concept. Fari Islands currently includes the Ritz-Carlton and Patina that share a marina with shops, restaurants and activities.

We were checked into Villa 202, an overwater pool villa with a beautiful sunset view. The villa is 1800 square feet and it is jaw-dropping. The entire property was designed by Marcio Kogan, and is meant to feel extremely natural and comfortable. When you walk into the villa you are immediately greeted by the view, with doors that open up entirely to bring the outside in. The furniture all has a low profile to accentuate the view, with a desk, king bed facing the view as well as a size-able lounge area with sofa, chair and coffee table. The bathroom is located in the back of the villa and features two vanities, an open show, separate toilet room and two small closets. The patio space ]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[COVID-19 Test for Travel: Getting back to the USA]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[DISCLAIMER: Max and I are not medical professionals and cannot provide any medical advice of any kind. This video showcases our own personal experience getting a COVID-19 test and it is important to remember to follow all CDC guidelines and guidelines of the destination you are traveling to.

The new regulations for entering the United States is definitely a stressful experience, particularly when you are already abroad and have to go find a COVID-19 testing center. Believe it or not, this was our FIRST COVID-19 test experience that we have had since the start of the pandemic and we were nervous, to say the least!

The new requirements are as follows: travelers must present a negative PCR or viral Antigen test OR prove recovery from COVID-19 via a positive antibody test + a doctor's note certifying that the traveler is fit to travel.

Since it has been very difficult to obtain a PCR test in general, but even more difficult to get a PCR within 72 hours of a flight, we decided to get an Antigen test. By contacting various clinics and reaching out to Facebook groups for our area, I was able to find a clinic that offered a same-day Antigen test.

We decided to get the test as close to the 72 hour mark as possible since we were not sure how overwhelmed the labs would be with the new announcement, so off we went on the 27th to get our COVID test. We had heard rumors that all of the clinics were completely overwhelmed so we were ready for chaos. All in all, it went smoothly!

As promised, here are some of the resources we recommend reviewing as you start to plan your own journey:

<video:title><![CDATA[Full board, half board, all-inclusive and everything in between: booking the right meal plan]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Planning a vacation is hard enough, without the added question about which booking package is best for you? Hotels offer half board, full board, all-inclusive, breakfast only, room only AND MORE! It's important to consider what the best value is for your vacation, particularly when it comes to alcohol on a luxury vacation. Depending on your property, alcoholic beverages tend to range from $15-30 per glass or drink. Many hotels do offer happy hours and dining packages to offset the cost. That being said, you will notice that most hotels your look at will offer a myriad of F&B packages to pick from. These can be pretty overwhelming and confusing, so let me break it down for you. Typically, you will have some or all of these options:

Room only: nothing is included in this rate- just your room
Bed & Breakfast: Room is included + breakfast for two people at 1 or some of their establishments during standard breakfast hours. Room service is usually not included.
Half Board: Room, breakfast & dinner. This option typically includes two meals and no alcoholic beverages. Note: some hotels do not include water or soft drinks in this option either. Room service is rarely included.
Full Board: Room, breakfast, lunch & dinner. This does not include alcohol or room service usually.
All-inclusive: This option includes your room, all meals and beverages (including alcohol).

01:27 - Room + Breakfast
02:12 - Half Board Plans
03:25 - Full Board Plans
04:56 - All-Inclusive Plans
09:01 - Membership / Loyalty Plans

To find the right meal plan for you, I’d recommend writing down what you typically eat and drink on a normal vacation. Take a guess at what it would cost you to eat every day on your holiday. For example, at a high end hotel we may estimate the following spend:

Breakfast: $70
Lunch: Rarely eat lunch on holiday
Pre-dinner drinks: $50
Dinner: $100

So, in my inflated estimate, I may spend somewhere around $250 a day. It]]></video:description>
